Ladybug🐞 (gel pens + watercolor)
Today's prompt for the @socalletters #socalletters challenge on Instagram was ladybug! Yay! This was such a fun piece to do, and I was inspired by one of my amazing friends to try using gel pens in this way. If you haven't checked out chrystal elizabeth she is amazing. Let's get started on the process:
With some watercolor paper, sketch out your leaf and your lettering to make sure it fits properly. I then used my Ecoline watercolor paints to color in the leaf, and my heat tool to speed along the drying process.
Now its time for the gel pens! I am using the Sakura Moonlight Gelly Roll pens to do the faux calligraphy, and I use just a little bit of water to blend the ink together. Make sure to work with the water while the ink is still wet. It will blend easier and smooth out nicely! Let the ink dry, and then add some black dots so it looks like a ladybug. Super fun and cute!
